Breck Foundation would like to celebrate and say happy pride month to our LGBTQ+ staff and supporters, as well as the LGBTQ+ children and young people we meet in schools and other organisations.
We at Breck Foundation stand with the LGBTQ+ community. We educate and empower young people, so they are free to explore their identity, their community and to express themselves online whilst staying safe.
We recognise that queer youth have additional online safety risks. Homophobic and transphobic language is endemic on the internet, with studies finding that almost all (97%) LGBTQ+ young people have been exposed to this type of content and hate. This must stop. LGBTQ+ youth and young people in the queer community have the right to feel and be safe online all year round.
Our work focuses on teaching children how to be good digital citizens and how to report hateful and abusive content across different platforms. We share Breck’s story to educate and remind people that the ‘friends’ you talk to online are not always who they say they are.
As we continue to grow as a Foundation that focuses on safeguarding children online, we aim to reach more and more vulnerable young people with our message, such as those in the LGBTQ+ community.
